NEWS - Facebook activist page opens to boycott 3DS purchases over 'conflict minerals' issues

Click HERE for Facebook page

Here's a bit of a mission statement from the Facebook page...
Hi. I'm a guy who likes video games. My favorite video games have been those I've purchased from Nintendo. I love Nintendo. And when I heard about the Nintendo 3DS, I was psyched.

Hi. I'm also a guy who cares about people. The best times in my life have been spent with people. I love people. And when I heard that Nintendo is allowing people to die and suffer grave human rights abuses for the sake of video game console production, I was horrified.

Nintendo isn't alone. The Enough Project, a campaign to end genocide and human rights abuses, has uncovered the practices of many electronics companies that involve a failure to ensure conflict minerals are not being traded for use in those companies' products. And what are conflict minerals? They are minerals that are mined in the Congo under countless abuses of human rights by armed rebel groups. Why has no one stopped this? Because we're doing the exact opposite-- fueling the war with our consumerism.

Thanks to GoNintendo and Destructoid

------

This sounds like a problem that needs to be brought to the attention of Nintendo.. I wonder if they will release any statements regarding this.

Game Finds - DSi

Picked this up yesterday afternoon for $105 even at a cool little resale shop. We all absolutely love it! It was the owners daughters, but she was just too little for it, so they sold it to us at a great price. It came with the box, charger, all the paperwork, and it even has a few dsiware games on it. We went to the gamestore to try and find a good cheap game today, but everything was out of our price range right now or not E rated, so we picked up a nice little carrying bag for $5 instead. Hopefully in the next week or so we can get some games for it. Though, I'm pretty sure the picture games would keep everyone busy for quite some time. Daemion and I just can't get enough of them. We will try and post some of the DSi creations that Daemion and I made by sometime tomorrow.

Monthly Old-School Favorite - Adventures of LoLo (NES)

This is going to be a little monthly feature here at the blog. Daemion loves to play classic games, so we figured we would showcase one of his favorites here each month.

First up this month,
The Adventures of Lolo for the NES.
This is a fantastic little puzzle game. I used to play it back when I was a kid, and it was one of the first virtual console games that we downloaded to our Wii. At first Daemion didn't really care for it, but after seeing me play it a few times, he finally asked for the controller. Once he learned the basics, he fell in love. He has got a bit frustrated with it a few times, but he seems to really like the challenge it brings. The last few stages he was on I had to help him a little, but he was always the one with the controller. If you like mind-bending puzzlers, pick this one up, you won't be disappointed.
It's available on the WiiShop Channel for 500points($5)

Game Finds - Gameboy Color

Found it at Goodwill earlier for $10. Also came with Super Mario Land and Cyber Tiger.
It's in pretty good condition and works great. I let Daemion play it for a few minutes earlier and he loved it.
I'm thinking about putting a custom paint job on it and maybe try installing a LED backlight to help Daemion see the screen. I've always wanted to do that.. and I found a good tutorial on how it's done.

Hello to Miss Tang's 1st Grade Class!!!

Welcome to our little corner of the web. We are glad you all are able to stop by and have a look!
Daemion had his first big Video Game Review yesterday of the game ExciteBots: Trick Racing. We would like for you guys to check it out. Here is a link to get you there. [ExciteBots Review]
Also, if any of you have a Nintendo Wii, ask one of your parents if they can find out what your Friend Code is and bring it back to school to exchange for Daemions code. That way everyone can send messages back and forth about what games they have that can be played online. Then maybe one day some of you will able to play with or against Daemion in an online match.
Make sure to take a look around and tell us what you think. Also, if it's okay with Miss Tang, maybe you could write down the web address to take home and show your parents. Have a great day and remember to do what your teacher says. :)

NEWS - Total relaxation is a click away with ‘Cozy Fire’

Official PR
ClassicFirePlance_1.jpg
Hamburg, Germany – February 21, 2011 – A lovely, mellow atmosphere can now pervades every living room with ‘Cozy Fire’ on the WiiWare™ service. Wii™ users have a variety of logs and wood to choose from and can stack them up using the Wii Remote™ controller. When you strike a match, the room will be filled with a comforting crackling sound and you will now have to stoke the fire and keep adding more logs as you would in real life so that it does not die down and keeps burning. If you are looking for total relaxation, more wood will automatically be placed on the fire in the ‘Butler mode’. You can also select ‘Non-stop mode’ where the logs do not burn down, so you never have to add new ones to the fire.

NEWS - WiiWare DSiWare VC Releases - Feb. 21st 2011

On this Presidents Day holiday, Nintendo recommends reaching across the aisle in the spirit of bipartisanship, creating harmony between new and classic titles, puzzle games and platformers, sprawling console adventures and crisp hand-held challenges. Start with the fantasy-fueled fun of Faxanadu, a memorable RPG from the NES™ era making its appearance on the Virtual Console™ service. Test your resolve even further with a demo version of the action-filled Rage of the Gladiator for the WiiWare™ service, available to download for zero Wii Points™. Most importantly, boost your diplomacy by sharing your favorite WiiWare and Nintendo DSiWare™ game recommendations with friends and spreading fun throughout the 50 states and beyond.

Review of ExciteBots: Trick Racing - Feb. 21st 2011

First off, let me say that Daemion and I have been having a blast with writing up the Review and making the Blog this week. We have met some really cool people, and have got some great help from friends of ours(you know who you are!). It has also been a major challenge coming up with a way for Daemion to score these games without just coming up with one number rating. My wife and I really wanted the scores to mean a little more than just one number pulled from Daemions head. Games have many different reasons why they score what they score on review sites. And we really wanted to try and keep the same style of the big review sites, but change it up a bit for the kids and parents. So instead of going the easy route with one simple rating, we figured we should go full force with our own little twist. When you first look at the scoring(below), some of you will notice there is a "Wow Factor" section instead of the usual "Presentation" section you might find on some review sites(IGN, GameSpot etc..)

February 20, 2011

Netflix: Change is good

We had Netflix once before right after it first came out for the Wii, but we let it go when we upgraded our Cable Plan. The selection back then was decent, but there wasn't a search function. There was just a simple menu featuring some of the best movies available in sections according to genre and the ones you put in your Queue(Instant Watch Line). If you wanted to try and find something in particular, you would have to search for it using your PC so you could add it to the Queue. Not to mention having to use a disc to load up Netflix. I had also read about how the Xbox360 didn't use a disc to stream content. So this became a minor annoyance knowing it should be possible to have a channel. I mean, the 360 can have it, why can't the Wii? Was it because the Wii's internal storage is small? Was this really the only way it could work? Well, I know now that wasn't the case, because the channel is sitting on my Wii menu as I type this out.

Thanks GoNintendo!

Thank you so much for telling your fans on your podcast about our blog! We are currently working on the first big review and should have it ready for tomorrow. Hope you guys and your readers enjoy it!

Thanks again GoNintendo!

Don't forget to vote!

We added a poll on the left side of the blog asking which game you want Daemion to review next.
Please, take a second of your time to vote. It would mean the world to my son to see the votes come in.
This week we have Epic Mickey, Sonic Colors and 1 WiiWare/1 VC up for vote.
More than likely, if "WiiWare/VC" is chosen, it will probably end up being either Jet Rocket or World of Goo, and one of the original Mario Bros.
After you make a vote, please leave a comment here telling what you picked and why. Thanks so much!

Game Finds - Madagascar Kartz

Picked this up last night at Blockbuster for $10. Daemion is a huge Penguins fan, and after seeing some video on it a few weeks ago, i knew he had to have it. There are tons of funny little jokes pumped out by King Julian(my fav), and the animations are pretty decent. It even has Shrek and the Blob from Monsters vs. Aliens! After playing it by myself last night for about an hour, I really only have one complaint.

Daemions UDraw Creation #1

Oh man does Daemion love his UDraw Tablet. It really has pulled the creativity right out of him. And let me tell ya, Doode's Big Adventure is one awesome game. You can color the backgrounds, baddies and the hero himself.
This looks like a total win for any child who loves art. It's easily one of Daemion's favorite's to play with.
If you have a child, and a Wii, my advice to you is to go snag this and have some fun with the whole family.
THQ knocked it out of the park with this one.
Thank You THQ!

If you like this creation, don't forget to check out his Valentines Day Mario Tube!

Game Finds - Kirby Air Ride

Found a copy of this for $5 yesterday at a Resale Shop. I couldn't get Daemion off it for a second to play ExciteBots.
Needless to say, he loves it.

I've noticed that a lot of people don't know that the Wii is backwards compatible with Gamecube games. They are cheap and sometimes just as good as any Wii game. So if your looking for a cheap game for your kid or yourself to play on the Wii, look no further than your local GameStore... or even better, Flea Markets, GoodWill and Pawn/Resale Shops.. They usually don't check prices of the games online, so sometimes you can get some great first party Nintendo games for just a few bucks!

News Posted on this Site

For now, I'm only going to be putting up news for general Wii stuff.. Occasionally you might see something that pertains to the DS, but very rarely. The main reason is because i help Daemion read every post on here. And he currently doesn't have a DS. So when he reads something like that, it reminds him of not having one.
He did have DS a few years ago when i got one in a trade, but he just wasn't ready yet. So we traded it for some more Wii games and a points card.
BUT...

Who is your favorite Mario Kart Wii Character?

Daemion Playing ExciteBots

Not Bad

Here's a video of Daemion playing ExciteBots: Trick Racing. This is maybe the 3rd or 4th time he has played it.
I haven't helped him at all with the game yet. I'm seeing how good he can go through the menus and how much he can learn by what the game itself teaches him. In the next few days, I will be helping to see if he can do any better then he is right now.
Hopefully in the next few weeks I can get a direct video feed with another video of him playing in the corner of the main video. Just have to get a spare pc in the gameroom first.

If you have a copy of ExciteBots and want to friend Daemion so you can have an online match, leave a comment with your friend codes and we will add you ASAP. We will then message you via Wii to set-up a time to play.
I will also try to record the match and post it here.

Welcome to our little corner of the web!

Welcome to the Weekly Review by: My little Gamer.

We will have a weekly review of new and old Nintendo Wii, Wiiware, and Virtual Console games.
Each new review will be posted every Monday.
Our first review will be of the game Excitebots: Trick Racing this following Monday(2-21-11).
We will also announce the next game to be reviewed on that same Monday.
The scoring system will be mainly based on difficulty, controls, replay value and possible parental guidance, but expect to see the usual stuff like sound and graphics too.
Hopefully this site can help parents decide if their child will be capable of playing certain games that we review.
Because we all know that if the game says "E" on it, doesn't necessarily mean your child will be able to play it.

So stay tuned for next weeks first big review by my son, Daemion D.

If you have any suggestions about site design or the next game we should review, please leave a comment here.. thanks for looking!
