WiiWare DSiWare VC Releases - April 18th 2011

Originally released in 1994 for the Super NES™ console, Mega Man™ X is widely recognized as a classic of the 16-bit gaming era. Starting this week, Wii™ owners can discover – or rediscover – the game’s timeless platforming fun via the Virtual Console™ service. For a different brand of retro-styled action with a contemporary twist, players can also try out a demo version of BIT.TRIP CORE, now available for download on the WiiWare™ service for zero Wii Points™. NEWS - WiiWare DSiWare VC Releases - April 4th 2011

Showers or no showers, the onset of April brings another round of new downloadable games for Nintendo systems. The Super NES™ favorite Super Bonk is now available on the Virtual Console™ service, giving Wii™ owners a fun new way to enjoy the hard-headed fun of the classic series. And as real-world baseball comes back to life in ballparks across the nation, the Nintendo DSiWare™ service offers the hand-held excitement of Absolute Baseball, challenging players to guide their own customized teams to big-league victory. Dark dungeons, fairytale adventures and exotic fish add even greater variety to this week’s lineup.

Flying above the town, you turn effortlessly to glide between two gently swaying trees... Out of the corner of your eye, you spy some good twigs below. You swoop gracefully down to pluck them from the ground, then flap your wings energetically to gain height. You circle back to where you are building your nest. Just a few more twigs and you’ll be ready to find a mate. Listening, you hear the sound of other birds nearby. Perhaps one of them is the father of your future chicks. You take to the wing once more, lost in the world of flight.

Bonk: Brink of Extinction canned for WiiWare

Man, this is not good. The 3DS version is canceled, and now this! Daemion and I both were really looking forward to this one. We have the other games that were released for Virtual Console and absolutely love them. My fingers are crossed that they pick this one back up somehow!

MonkeyPaw Games Announces Retro Revamp BurgerTime HD

The idea behind MonkeyPaw Games is to bridge East and West. We believe each hemisphere deserves each other's games. And many great titles have not seen a foreign shore. So we took up the mantle to find, recreate and publish titles that need such treatment. We’ve petitioned your requests for Japanese games and have brought you 14 classic retro imports on the PlayStation Network Store. More to come!

Now we’re about to try something different. We reviewed the way retro gaming has been presented in recent years on the digital download platforms. Some games have been graphically retouched and look impressive. But a true classic deserves a complete reinvention in order to rekindle the magic that made it special.

Our first foray into evolving retro is BurgerTime HD. This culinary classic arcade screamed out for revival. We’ve kept the burger-making mechanic but placed the action into a Rotary Environmental System, allowing cylindrical 3D levels to rotate around a center axis and the player to build burgers around the circumference.

The 40 complex levels allow a harrowing haul through burgerdom spiced up by four hairy bosses. Four-player local and online play adds an intense competitive element. And chat, avatars, leaderboards, trophies and downloadable content will make this game a classic, once again!

With this expanded canvas, creative platform mechanics and a bevy of new characters, it is hard to call the game retro. It is more akin to an extension of the original vision, an evolution. We plan to release BurgerTime HD early this summer so be on the lookout for more news at www.BurgerTimeHD.com.

Club Nintendo - Post-play surveys, product registration window of opportunity much smaller

If you have Nintendo products to register over at Club Nintendo, you better jump on the registrations as soon as possible. There have been some big changes according to the updated Question and Answer section.

Q: Do surveys expire?

A: Yes. In general, Product Registration surveys expire after 7 days, and Post Play surveys expire 120 days after registration. Please review the date listed next to the survey in your To-Do list to ensure that you take the survey before it expires.

120 days may be a big change from the years that were previously offered, but it's still not that bad. The 7-day survey window might be a bit tougher.

I'm sure some of you may have noticed that there is a couple E 10+ games here in the list. We actually do let Daemion play them from time to time. I checked the games before buying them, and there isn't anything in them that he hasn't seen on Daytime TV or talked about with his friends. So please don't think that we'll let him play just any game no matter what the rating is. As a parent, it's ultimately up to you to judge what is good or bad for your children to play. We also make sure to be there with him the entire time he is playing these games.

I'm a real big FPS fan, and Daemion has walked in on me playing them a few times, not to mention hearing me talk about how much I love them. I used to tell him that one day he'd be able to share my joy of those types of games. Then, when Water Warfare(FPS using Squirt Guns) came out, I instantly checked out some gameplay videos and then made the decision that it would be ok for him to play it. As for Overturn(Fighting Robots), Daemion loves anything that has to do with robots, and I was wanting the game for myself too. So after playing it for a while I decided that it too would be ok for him to play. He actually doesn't really like the game because of the difficulty and controls. It can take some getting used to.
